Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
Watched this one late as I was tied up all weekend. I think the scoreline flattered us a bit although deserved the win. Both of Bowen's goals were from deflections. I agree that we were much better defensively and saw a lot more controlled possession out of the back which only highlighted how wasteful we are going forward. As much stick as I give Benrahma for lacking a final ball, I think Bowen might be worse. He's either scoring, losing possession or going backwards to Coufal. His scoring has been far too infrequent.

Thought Ings was useful when he came on and will give us a much needed option up top even if service will be hard to come by. Downes also looked very competent the few minutes he got at the end.

It was certainly positive and in the right direction. The attacking woes are still worrying. If we have to rely on luck deflections and penalties all season, ti's going to go down to the last day.

I still like ‘who scored a hattrick in one match with each of the 3 goals being scored against a different keeper’. Has that been done by anyone else or just Stretch?

Losers' ribbons

Newport Isle of Wight.

First season after WWII, there was an FA Cup, but no League. To spin out the FA Cup to partly make up for the absence of League football, some rounds were made two-legged.

Newport lost both in one round, but their opponents of that round folded before they could take part in the next. Newport were given their place, but lost

No idea without googling it. What gets taken to the cup final every season but is never used?

Quiz question, which 8 clubs since joining the football league have never played outside the top 2 divisions?

Think my 13-year-old grandson summed up West Ham's performance nicely, as we left the ground he said "nobody played badly today did they, grandad?

I had to agree. Obviously, it needs to be maintained.

Everton have had two relegations and nontwithstanding what gph correctly states, Arsenal had a spell outside the top flight while they were first Woolwich Arsenal, then The Arsenal and then Arsenal.

Plus they got promoted back up despite only finishing 5th.

Arsenal have never relegated from the top division under the name Arsenal, though.

They sneakily changed their name several times

Did that rule come in before or after the one awarded for us against Bournemouth?

Ogbonna's hand went towards the ball, penalty for me all day long.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
There will be no penalty if:

the ball touches a player's hand/arm immediately from their own head/body/foot or the head/body/foot of another player.

https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/how-does-the-new-handball-rule-work-football-rules-explained/baj7pi2kk191qyeu9ay8wlrn

The ball struck Ogbonna's head before his arm.

(This came in well after Tony Gale stopped playing, but, working as a co-commentator, he should've been aware of it - he clearly wasn't)

I notice that no one has mentioned the Ogbonna handball at 0-0, looked a penalty to me, if that was in the other box and we lost 2-0 there would have been referee meltdowns on here.

Another massive slice of LUCK we've had this season. Luckiest team in the league.

A win is a win and I'll take that all day long. And it absolutely looked as we were set up with five at the back against the worst team in the league.
Still looks like being a long season to me.

Statistics are probably to five decimal places, and let's face it, that's what they needed to be for our first goal to stand...

Well done to Nolan for getting Bowen's position spot on, but it's no wonder it takes so long to get them across.

Since this WHO, I have to say I'm not being entirely serious

Interesting that there are 2 clubs that have never been out the top flight and this season one of them will finish top whilst the other (potentially) finishes bottom

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Can’t help but wonder how the whole tactical and coaching setup at West Ham doesn’t get more scrutiny in the English media. Yeah I get it - they’re all top-six obsessed and the expectation is that we’re always gonna be a bit naff, but then there are clubs like Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham and Brentford that can play the modern game to win as well. Guess it’s just some kind of collective nostalgia for relying on tall donkeys and hoofing it up the pitch.
